Last year I picked up an AeroGarden for Shala. Since doing so – we have grown tons of lettuce, basil, parsley, dill and cilantro. It really has been a neat lil’ toy – but most importantly it has allowed for things during these cold months that we wouldn’t normally be able to grow.
This morning we picked Cilantro & Basil (regular & purple). And we still have a bunch left to pick.
Wondering if anyone else has one of these guys? I know they are pricey – but at the same time… so is regular gardening (when you are a true addict). We like ours, and are amazed at how fast & effecient things grow in it. So in other words…
Are you an AeroGardener? And if so – do you think yours is as cool as we think ours is?
We have finally made it through the month of May. There were a few days in there that I didn’t think we would ever make it. James went out of town three weekends in a row and I went out of town two. The other weekends were spent at family functions in other towns 30 or 45 minutes away. We. Are. Tired.
Our yard and plants have suffered. Most things are still living they just aren’t doing as well as they could be, but this weekend we are HOME. In fact there are no out of town trips planned for this whole month and we hope to keep it that way. There is grass to cut, potatoes to harvest, plants to prune and empty barrels to fill.
At this point I would have to say that the tomatoes in the Aerogarden are looking the best and feeling the least amount of stress.
(Yes, we do realize that the name tag says cilantro. It’s a liar. LIAR! We used our own seeds for this and it was the only tag that we had.)
This picture was taken a week ago and these plants have grow a lot since then. The Aerogarden will never take the place of our garden outside, but we do enjoy trying to grow different things and watching how fast they grow.
We will take some pictures this weekend of the other things going on. It’s been a tough year to keep things documented but maybe things are slowing down and we will get better.
P.S. – WE ACTUALLY GOT SOME RAIN THIS PAST WEEK! Real live rain!
So today on Twitter, some of the #twitter4vg folks were talking about how to garden on the cheap. Just so happens that we got a few things in the mail the past few days that prove the point that you CAN garden on the cheap. So at lunch I snapped a few pics of the snail mail we received and I might have mentioned it – but we picked up a Creative Labs Vado HD 720p Pocket Video Camcorder with 8 GB Video Storage and 2x Digital Zoom (Black) from Amazon the other day and we have been itchin’ to use it. SoooOooooooooOooo… I took a short lil video of our seedlings (and our dogs) just to try it out and get an idea of what we have going on.
Here are a few things that we got in the mail that were absolutely free…
The Campbell’s free seeds came via Campbell’s of course (just go here), we signed up for the free seeds one day on their site – and they finally showed up yesterday. 1 packet of free tomato seeds, pretty good deal. Considering the amount of tomatoes that you can get from a single plant. There are roughly 25 seeds per packet, plus they have a $1 off coupon on Campbell’s soups.
Then, the same day – we received this card from our local nursery, Alldredge Gardens. It basically states (while supplies last), you can bring in the card and get a free Geranium. I know you can’t eat it… but we buy so many plants that it will save us some money.
Cool eh? We think so. So if you are looking at some ways to save money – but still garden… just look around. People are basically giving stuff away!
Ok, this next little treat is like I said… just really to play with the new video camera. We wanted to try it out and so I just buzzed through the seedlings we have in the sunroom and our dogs are in the video as well. Nothing special and honestly the soundtrack… who are we kidding, just mute it. It is the dumbest crap ever. It was free with our camera as an editing style… I swear. But anyhow, enjoy – and check out the seedlings in all their glory.
