Things Are Happening In The Garden – Finally

So we have been on garden-watch for the past month or so just begging our plants to do SOMETHING.  But they don’t listen.  We buy them things.  We pet them.  We baby them like no other…

but nothing seems to really do the trick.

They are stubborn.  Like us.

But finally, this week – a few of them have budged.  Yesterday we were walking around in the heat snapping pics and hi5-ing each other as we saw each new development.  So it is only fair for us to share with you guys eh?

So here ya go…

First Jalapeno

You have likely seen this guy before, but he has gotten so BIG.  We are proud.  Our lil boy’s growing up!

Okra Growing In The Garden

Disregard the ant… he was being an asshole and wouldn’t move.  This is our okra.  It is slow growing, but growing still… working on its second set of tru leaves – we can’t wait to jump head first into some fried okra this summer.

Lime on our lime tree

We had a million blooms this year, and thought – man we are going to actually get some limes this time around.  Well then they all fell off, we got 40MPH winds – and so on.  But this lil guy and one other are still hanging on.  I’m sure it will fall off, but hopefully it will be garnishing a beer at some point.  Who knows?

Fushcia Flower

Shala’s Fuschia is pimpin’ as ever.  We murdered one of these last year in about a week (record time).  So we are happy to see it doing so awesome.  The foliage is nice and healthy – not to mention about 100 blooms on it.  I know Nestmaker just threw up from all the blooms.  Sorry.

Fuschia Flower Blooms

Just had to give you a closeup of one.  So cool.  Ok – enough.

Tomato Blooms Starting

Ok – you know you see them in there.  The first lil blooms of our tomato season.  Right there in the crotch… see it?  We do.  FINALLY.  Maybe we can get them germinated pollinated (wrong word sorry hehe) and then next pics we take will be baby tomato butts.  We can only hope so.

Strawberries - well at least the blooms

Yup, that is a strawberry bloom – nice and healthy.  We saved this guy from death – since Lowe’s didn’t think it was worth saving.  Now it is about to produce some of its first strawberries.  MmmmMmmm.

How does your garden grow?  Anything we should know about?  Any new blooms, new veggies… anything?  Do share.

Our Peppers Just Looked At Each Other And Thew Up A HI-5 – They Are Conceited Like That

They like it when we post about them.  So they HI-5.  It is weird, but effective.

WE HAVE PEPPERS pokin’ thier lil butts out already.  Actually, we have some that are almost half an inch long. haha SO BIG… haha  Regardless the size, we are happy just to see some action takin’ place in the garden.  Sprouts are cool and all… but seeing some of your first fruits/veggies start to emerge – totally different.

I think the scarier part is that you kind of think the hard work is done after planting, transplanting… all that stuff.  But really, now the real work starts.  Insects, birds… squirrels… diseases… harvesting… trimming… mulching.  It goes on and on.

But – it is also the funnest time to us, to go out and harvest and show off our prizes!  Are we alone?  Everyone loves the harvest most right?  Or is the initial sprouting phases more fun?

If you are a fan of harvesting or emergence… you will respect this next picture.  Our first Jalapeno pepper of the season…

Ladies & Gentlemen… Mucho Nacho…

Mucho Nacho Jalapeno Peppers

Pretty cool huh?  That was Sunday, so it is actually a lil bigger now.  We can’t wait to harvest some peppers!  Crap man!  Hurry up!

Here is a quick bonus picture of our squash plant.  We have 3 plants growing in our 3 Sisters’ Garden (Corn, Bean & Squash).  We kind of violated this one to show you the lil blooms about to start shooting out.  So enjoy…

Squash Plant Pictures

How does your garden grow?  Lots of changes takin’ place at the moment.  We are a little worried about the peppers we planted in the raised bed (the jalapenos are in a barrel), just because they are pale and kinda stunted it seems.  We are worried we overwatered them at the beginning.  Can you imagine killing 15 plants all at once.  Systematically… we hope we are wrong.

Our tomatoes in pots are getting HUGE.  Just waiting for that first bloom.  COME ON FREAKIN’ TOMATOES!

Putting The Peppers To Bed

Our first raised bed is now full!!

Actually is has been for a couple of weeks, but due to life we are a bit behind on posting.  James is so busy at work that it is overflowing into gardening and blogging time (and wife time!) and well my excuse is that I’m awful at blogging.  I’m going to try to be a lot better and keep you all updated on things going on now instead of things that happened two weeks ago.  Don’t hold your breath, like I said… I’m trying.

Annnnd now back to the peppers.

This bed was reserved for and is now full of sweet peppers.  We eat a lot of peppers, like, A LOT.  Raw on sandwiches, salads and cooked in just about anything that you can cook them in.  We had a few plants last year but they just didn’t give us the amount of peppers we were looking for, so this year we planted quite a few plants.

Sweet Pepper Gardening Bed

In this bed we have California Wonder Bells, Sweet Bananas and Summer Salads.  Five plants of each type and so far they are all doing great.

A few of the plants were a little small when we planted them, but we have been protecting them from the harsh winds with the awesome row cover that James built along with the bed and they seem to be doing just fine.  Also we got the irrigation set up a while back – so after a few modifications… it is doing it’s job!

There have been many plants going into beds, barrels and other various containers and I will do my best to get us all caught up this week.
