Finally our two big tomatoes have decided to ripen. These guys turned red while we were away for the weekend and I can’t wait to have a taste!
The bottoms are beautiful as you can see.
The tops aren’t quiet as nice. These are the two that I showed previously while still on the vine. They did some major cracking during our week of pretty wet weather. They were just getting so juicy the skin couldn’t keep up. We will cut the tops off and eat the bottoms.
I think an ugly tomato tastes much better than a pretty store bought one.
Nice “bottoms”. LOL Baby got back?
Do you make any sauces or can them? Since Dave is allergic to tomatoes, I’m the only one who eats them, so I don’t usually grow that many. But harvesting them from your own garden is the best…whether they’re pretty or not. Grabbing a handful of Sun Golds with fresh basil, feta cheese and balsamic vinegar….Mmmmm.
@ Deb- We ate them in some baked spaghetti and also in a salad last night and they were delicious. I can’t wait for some more to turn!
@ Heidi – We don’t have enough this year to make sauces or can them, but I would like to try at some point. We did pickle some banana peppers though, be on the look out for that post in the next couple of days! It was our first experience at canning anything.
bottoms up, dubz
@ghost – dude, this is Shala’s post, get your danger halves right. 😉 haha
My bigger ‘maters look just like those…the romas and early girls are mostly blemish free, but the beefsteak are all gnarly and mutated and cracked.
