Had a minute at lunch to take a picture of our potatoes growing in the barrel (read: How To Grown 100 lbs. of Potatoes).  And compared to the one I posted this morning…

WOW.

They really have grown in the last month.  Here is a before & after (with about 3 weeks in between)…

Not too shabby eh?  We HAVE to get in there and mound up around the tops… dumb that we haven’t already.  But you know how it goes sometimes.  You just can’t seem to get caught up right?  Maybe today is the day.  Maybe.

The other day while browsing Reddit – I came across a rare home gardening related post in which the Seattle Times outlines how to grow 100 lbs. of potatoes.  Now I don’t know about you – but we have potatoes planted and WISH we would have seen this sooner.  With all our raised beds, this would have been a perfect thing to try.

When we first tried potatoes, we had heard of people stacking tires up (which is this same sort of concept, but this one is with wood), but this year we opted for wine barrels – but we really are kicking ourselves by not finding this sooner!

Are you growing potatoes this year?  If so, how are you growing potatoes?  This is already in our plans for next year.  We eat a lot of potatoes and so this will be important to us when next season rolls around.  Pretty cool!

This picture was taken almost a month ago – so we will try and get another one today and update it’s progress.  Doubt there is 100 lbs in there! haha

After this past week – you can’t say we haven’t ever gave you anything.  Well… I guess some of you still can.  But still.  This whole give-away thing was a lot of fun, we are happy to have been able to do this for our readers.  We are happy that we have met so many new and nice folks that love gardening as much as us.  So what we are trying to say is…
