Mikey’s Under The Knife

Whenever I picture a dog having surgery or something - even though I know who his vet is and all that… I still picture a German Shepherd doing the procedure… with some poodles playing the roles of nurses.  You know… like a little doggy surgery.

That would be cool.

Seriously though, Mikey is at the vet this morning and by noon he will no longer be a man… err… male.

Yup, get the big “snip” finally.  With Izzy now on this earth, we are just hoping we are acting fast enough - as last week Izzy was in heat.  The last thing we need/want is Labra-weiners.  That would be a tough sale.  Hell, that would be a tough give-away.

So this post is dedicated to Mikey Danger… the most manliest weiner dog ever… until today.  We had a semi-pro photo shoot last weekend… yeah right.  He just was so tired from chasin’ tail that I was finally able to snap a few pictures without him trying his best to eat the camera.

Ok… and one shot of Izzy - just because she will be sad without her friend today… she will be looking everywhere for him.

Guest Blogging @ Fantasy Football Goat

Those that know me, they know I used to run a fantasy football website up until last year.  Yup… I’m a sell out.  I decided that I didn’t want to do it anymore, so instead I sold it and went about my business.

Well, the itch never goes away to write about fantasy football.  I thought it might, but of course it didn’t… with football season just around the corner, a fellow fantasy football blogger (Corey @ Fantasy Football Goat) gave me the opportunity to write again.

So I know all you ladies & gardeners just LOVE fantasy football and all… and you will be running over to Fantasy Football Goat to see what Dubz is thinking…

Really I am just passing it on to those few people that still come around that know me from way back - figured they would enjoy some fantasy football goods.

If someone you know loves fantasy football and you can share it… then share it.  If you don’t know anyone… well FINE THEN.  No worries, we will have some cool gardening stuff to look at and oooh and ahhhh about momentarily.

Our Weekend In Pictures…

We had a nice weekend, enjoying our garden and getting into the pool a few times.

On Saturday we hit up the farmers’ market in Downtown Midland, and then we hit up another one a bit later.  Both had great produce, however the second one had a bit more to choose from.

While there we picked up some okra, cucumbers, a watermelon and some garlic.  All for a super low price and everything was fresh as can be.  We were very happy.  We have yet to harvest any okra or cucumbers… so in the meantime, we figured we would help out a local grower.

So with fresh okra, we decided to harvest a squash to accompany it and Shala also put on a pot of beans.

Fresh Okra & Squash

So for dinner on Saturday, we had the following classic southern meal…

Grilled Pork Loin

Fried Okra

Fried Squash

Red Beans

Cornbread

Fresh Cucumbers

How is that for some good stuff?  It had been a long time since we had ate anything listed above, so it was awesome and not to mention fresh as can be.

We were very happy with the squash, and good thing… because we have already pulled another and have about a million setting as we speak.  Anyone need squash?!?!? haha  Just say the word.

Squash, squash & more squash

Our okra has started to bloom and produce pods, so we should actually have fresh okra soon as well.  That is cool, since we had almost given up on it after the dog trampled it and we did our best to kill it ourselves.

Okra blooming pictures.

I know a lot of you guys are already harvesting daily tons of fresh veggies, but we are a tad bit behind.  Until we are able to do so… we figure we will help out local growers and eat great veggies.  If you do not know where to find a local grower in your area, check out this link: Local Harvest (thanks Tim)

Happy Birthday Bro…

Today would have been Kenny’s (my Brother) birthday.  He passed a way a few years back, but I know if he was around… he would be raisin’ some hell and we would be having a BBQ or something.  My brother kind of introduced me to BBQ - his chicken was something else…  one other staple was good music to join us… and maybe a few cold beers.

Maybe. ;)

So to celebrate his birthday, here is some music he would have surely jammed if he was around today.   Happy birthday bro.  I will surely drink a cold one for ya.

Randy Pausch: Rest in Peace

Anyone who has seen Dr. Randy Pausch, or his internet-famous “Last Lecture“… knows just how awesome of a person Randy Pausch was.  I say “was” because Randy Pausch passed away today after his battle with pancreatic cancer.

The video which is a must watch if you haven’t already, is inspiring to say the least.  NEVER in my life have I seen someone as accepting as Randy in terms of death.  Granted, there was indeed nothing he could do about it - so dwelling and mourning about his circumstances… would do him no good.

I hope you will spend some time watching his Last Lecture, it is long - so I suggest checking it out over the weekend.  Yes, this is the guy that was on Oprah ladies… so if you watched that - you know what we are talking about here.

Our thoughts & prayers go out to his family, even though we do not personally know him - his story was inspirational and gives you hope that even in the darkest times… acceptance can be one of the greatest releases.
