New Plants (because we NEEDED them)

We took a little trip to the hardware store this weekend to find a new sprinkler.  This happens quite a bit since James is obsessed with sprinklers and has yet to find one that he is really happy with.  I don’t complain though because I know that I will get to look at plants and other fun things!

So while he was staring down some sprinklers I decided to venture to the outdoor area just to see what plants they had.  Right when I walked out the manager said all plants are 75% off and as I took a quick look around I could easily see why the discount.  Most of the poor plants were so sad and at the doorsteps of death, but I took a look around anyway.

In amongst all of the haggard mess were a couple of plants that I decided that we couldn’t live without and that the plants couldn’t live without us.  Literally!

The three that I picked out were all Hibiscus.  I have never really thought that I would have a whole yard full of these or anything but these three plants were too good of a deal to pass up.

Amazon Queen Hibiscus

Amazon Queen Hibiscus – regular price was $19.99 on sale for $5.00

Butterfly Hibiscus

Butterfly Hibiscus – regular price $7.99 on sale for $2.00

Prom Girl Hibiscus

Prom Girl Hibiscus – regular price $7.99 on sale for $2.00

These plants are pretty sad looking, but I have faith that with a little love and care they will flourish and provide us with some great blooms.

After James finally found a sprinkler he came out to join me and was drawn to the vegetable plants as he always is.  He doesn’t care much for the flowers, that is my job.

He picked out this Early Girl Hybrid tomato plant and Anaheim pepper plant.  The tomato already has a couple of blooms and both of them seem to have taken wonderfully to their new home.  The regular price for these was $4.99 on sale for the whopping price of $1.25.

Five plants for the grand total of $11.50 plus tax.  Pretty good bargain shopping if I do say so myself!  And we saved the little guys from a hardware store death… no one deserves that.

  1. WOW! What a terrific deals. Saving plants…you’ve done your good deed for the day! Hmmm…maybe I should tell Dave he needs something at the hardware store and go with him.

  2. For those of us in the area, which hardware store did you find these at? I’m not typically bold enough to try potted plants, but I think Dede really loves hibiscus flowers so I was thinking I might surprise her…

  3. Rob, we got these at the Ace Hardware on Andrews Hwy. I think that we got the last three hibiscus but you might stop by and make sure. They are already looking a lot healthier and the Amazon Queen has some blooms that I expect to open in the next week or so. I can’t wait!
